Work fun

I really don't blog about my work much. Not sure why. I guess it's irrelevant in the day to day life of my kids other than the fact that I spend a lot of time there. And, really, I mostly like to talk about things going on with the boys and Sarah.

But today I will share a few photos! Isn't that exciting! Ha! Lucky you :) Nursing is hard work and it is rare that we stop and have a few laughs. But here are a few pics from last week.

I work with some really great girls. Makes it all a little easier :)

Is it the 28th already?

Wow, it flew by!

Togetherness. Yup. That's what we had. Sweet. Sarah Scott did well with the commotion. And since I am so tired tonight and just want to take a shower and read with some popcorn, I will post pictures. After all, pictures really tell the story :)

Here are the boys arriving!

In these 2 pictures Jimmy is cooking us dinner. He went shopping for all the ingredients. He loves to cook and we had a great meal. I am very impressed.

The next group are from christmas eve, where we had lots of company, did our secret santa and ate chinese food. Yum.

Stockings.

The next few pictures are from Christmas morning. John cooked breakfast and Jimmy tried out his new coffee maker! And Sarah slept through the whole thing. Good for her!

And then we come to the 26th, which was John's 21st birthday!

Happy Birthday John♥

My dad, my brother and my two.

And finally, on John's birthday, the boys presented me with this unique, beautiful bracelet. It contains a piece of sea glass. I think it's beautiful. Because it's from them. Together.

Feeling like Christmas

Here I am waiting in the car and here is John's bus pulling up to deliver him home to Cape Cod. Such excitement!

Finally John is able to cut the bottom off the tree so we could bring it inside before the big snows arrive. He got home just in time, as you can see from the next pictures!

And this is our house the next morning after 18 inches of snow plowed up the east coast.

It took me forever to shovel out and just when I had nothing left to give a kindly neighbor came over with his snowblower and did the driveway. I am so grateful. I wouldn't let John out to shovel since he was feeling under the weather. Cannot have my boy sick for Christmas and his birthday :)

And then it was time to trim the tree. Lots of fun and a few broken ornaments, while we watched the snow continue to come down. So beautiful! John was slightly distracted by the movie ' Top Gun' :)

And here is Mia in the middle of the mix. Literally. She is a huge fan of tissue paper.

This pink ornament is my favorite. It is pink, shiny, and very simple.

Finally, at the end of the day, I let Miss Sarah loose with the sparkily tree. She loves the lights and enjoys pulling at the garland and the beads. So sweet.

I don't have a title for this post

What is going on?

First of all, I cannot find, for the life of me, the magazine that Sarah likes to turn the pages of while she is in her stander. I have looked everywhere and it is gone. I never lose things. Never.

Secondly, why is my cat playing with a small stuffed christmas stocking? Well, what I really mean is, where did she get this? It looks like a cat toy (sort of), but she is playing with it like she only plays with a new toy. What is that about?

And thirdly, where did my bread go? I have looked through the whole kitchen and nothing. How does one lose an entire loaf of bread? I have driven myself crazy looking for it. Did the cat take it? Seriously.

Fourthly, my doorbell just rang and standing there were the couple from next door. And guess what they were holding for me? Yup, homemade bread! Merry Christmas. I guess the lord giveth and the lord taketh away. Or in my case, the lord taketh away first and then the lord decided to giveth.

I'm just saying....

Anticipation

Here is the arrival of our Christmas Tree. So fun!

Is our tree up yet? Nope. It's propped against our chimney outside, waiting patiently for John's arrival. He is the Christmas Tree MAN! He loves putting up a good tree. Right now he's in the middle of finals at school, but he will come in a few days and the fun will begin. I can't wait!

Jingle. Jingle.

Memories

Last night while I was at work I called home to check on Sarah. My sister was taking care of her and told me that Sarah was sliding out of her chair at the table and I might want to replace the dycem on it.
Dycem is a type of material that is a bit sticky. You put a piece of it on a chair and the person who sits on the chair cannot really slide around. They slightly stick to it. It's great for Sarah and I use it in one of her wheelchairs, on the trip-trap chair at the table and sometimes on the saddle when she rides. That way she can't hitch her pelvis forward and slide out/off.
So I made a note to myself to look at it today. This afternoon I ran my hand over it and it had definately lost its stickiness. In fact, it was slippery! It's a miracle she had not slipped right onto the floor. So, I grabbed a new piece and started to pull the old one off the trip-trap chair.

And suddenly, I stopped. Right in the middle.

I was hit by the memory of the day I had put this piece on the chair. It was over ten years ago. That red square of dycem had been on this chair supporting Sarah for a decade. For many meals, through countless teaching sessions, surgeries, birthday cakes, story books, sicknesses and many, many hours of playtime.

And I remembered how I felt that day when I stuck it to her chair. I had no idea what dycem was, Sarah was almost 3 years old and a woman from Early Intervention had brought it over for me to try. At the time I was making my way slowly through the maze of having a daughter with a disability, I was bewildered, hesitant and felt vulnerable. Sarah was a puzzle, to the world of Early Intervention and all the doctors. It was a scary, overwhelming time with many questions, of which no one had the answers. And I remember placing that dycem down and hoping it would at least help my little girl stay put in that chair.
And it did. Worked like a charm, keeping my sweetie safe.

And so I became a little teary, thinking of that day so long ago and how I had felt in that uncertain time. And here I was all these years later taking that dycem off and replacing it with a new green square. I felt a little sad. But I am much more confident as Sarah's parent now. I know who she is, what makes her tick, how to teach her and what makes her belly laugh. I make decisions easily for her and can now help others with their special little ones. I've come a long way in a decade and so has my girl.

Good-bye old friend!

I think it deserves a frame, don't you? :)
